The GED is tough enough without the confusing amount of advice you’re given about what you actually need. We’ve spoken before about how to start studying for the GRE now we’re looking specifically at the GED studying material which you really need.
First up, and this is true for any kind of studying, you need to focus on improving the efficiency of your studying so you’re not wasting time. The sooner you do this, the better results you’ll get from all the time you spend studying.
To make the most from your studying don’t focus on the time you invest. Focus on the quality of your study session over the quantity you do. This is one of the key things we focus on and we absolutely think you can get twice the results in half the time. Make sure you grab the free audiobook Unlimited Memory by a chess grandmaster which will absolutely transform your results overnight if you apply the techniques.
We also suggest the usual like finding (or creating) a study space with limited distractions that you can access when needed. For some, this might be a library or a quiet spot in a park. A distraction-free desk at home will work as well.
More Specific GED Material
Your local library can provide all study materials and books you need, and most prep facilities provide everything at no cost as well. Check if your state (or the testing sites near you) uses the GED or maybe the TASC or Hi. SET. You can check our website for details.
There are also a few pretty good online courses that will get you all set for the four GED tests. Bear in mind that you can take one of the four GED sub-tests at a time within a 2-year time frame. So prepare for one part (module), pass that test, and move on to the next part. This doe not apply to the Hi. SET and TASC exams.
If you get hold of free books and other material, be sure they are in line with the 2014 series of the GED exam (the most recent version). If this is not the case, don’t bother to even look at it, the new GED is quite different from the earlier version. Good luck.

Companies Selling GED Material – Should You Bother?
There are plenty of companies selling GED studying material. You’ll probably have seen a couple before finding us since they tend to plaster ads everywhere. Opinions may be pretty divided over the effectiveness of it.
At the end of the day, a one-off cost to help you get a better result in your GED might well be worth it and sometimes investing in something makes you feel like you have more skin in the game. There are far too many of these services for me to go through them all and have a hope of telling you what’s worth it and what isn’t. Some will just be selling you things you can get for free, others might actually have some useful stuff.
My suggestion would be to start with the free material and see how it goes. If you find you need more then start looking about.
The GED site themselves offer free studying materials here. You should definitely be using these if you’re not already.
