Cpa Exam Tip: How To Study Smarter

The text:

How to study smarter. First of all, find a nice, quiet space because its important to have quality over quantity. I remember back in the day when I was studying for my accounting classes, Id go to the library and lock myself in one of those rooms or in a cubby, and I would study, study, study.

To make the most from your studying don’t focus on the time you invest. Focus on the quality of your study session over the quantity you do. This is one of the key things we focus on and we absolutely think you can get twice the results in half the time. Make sure you grab the free audiobook Unlimited Memory by a chess grandmaster which will absolutely transform your results overnight if you apply the techniques.

And I would put some headphones in or some ear plugs in to keep that outside noise away. Another thing thats important is study in groups because a lot of times it motivates you. Theres times when you dont feel like studying but one of your friends does, so study in a group, but make sure youre staying on topic. Its not a time to discuss, Hey, whats up for happy hour? Also, begin studying every day at the same time. For example, theyve done studies and theyve found that if you study, lets say, at 7 oclock at night, the first time it takes you 20 minutes to get in, then 15, then 10… pretty soon it takes 2 or 3 minutes to get your mind rolling and rocking, so that way youre staying on target. Create mnemonics. Mnemonics are these great memory aids.

For example, lets say youre studying accounting and you want to remember leases. T T B P O 75 or 90. Title transfers and so on. Or auditing. Tippy Canoe. Training, Independence, due professional care. These memory aids or mnemonics are a great way to remember a lot of information in a short period of time.

You can also check out our tutoring center for videos on hot accounting topics, and its a nice way to kind of see how I walk you through very difficult accounting topics. Also, dont forget, try to get lots of rest the night before your exam. Also, exercise and nourishment is very important. I know sometimes thats tough, especially as a college student, but make sure youre not going to a party the night before the exam.

And those are my tips on how to study smarter…

  • All of these tips are really great. However, most of them don’t involve how to handle the material. I think one of the most crucial things to be able to study smarter is having study tools. My study tool used for most classes is a two-column notes approach; I take information from the book or lecture and put them in Q/A format. I fold a piece of paper in half, and the middle of it is the dividing line between Questions and Answers. This way, I can fold the answers behind the questions and I can quiz myself. Not only is this a practice exam sort of thing, it’s also a way to effectively summarize tons of information.

  • Roger, I was a rep for you last year and it was by far one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I just passed FAR with an 81 on my first try using your course, and I couldn’t be happier. Your AUD materials have proven to be amazing as well. I will gladly continue to use your course – thanks for being the most awesome teacher ever!!!!! – Haley O’Bryan, Arizona State University MAcc
